He was the Department Chair for eleven years, Coordinator of the Rehabilitation
Counseling Program for three years and Director of the Person-Centered
Studies Program for nine years during his twenty year tenure in that department.
He also worked with the Illinois Department of Mental Health, and the Universities
of Southern Illinois, Arkansas, Iowa and Florida.
He has been a licensed psychologist. He is currently a Licensed Professional
Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist in Georgia.
He is nationally
and internationally recognized as one of the leading authorities on Client-Centered
Therapy and the Person-Centered Approach.
He has over 200 professional articles and book chapters in multiple areas
including many on the theory and practice of the Person-Centered Approach
and in psychotherapy outcome research. Other areas of expertise are conflict
mediation, large community group facilitation, psychotherapy outcome research
and organizational facilitation.
